Prime Minister Tareq Rahman has emphasized the importance of adopting innovative and sustainable production methods to survive in competition in the global market.

In a statement issued on Monday (June 8) marking World Accreditation Day, to be observed on Tuesday (June 9), he stated that in the present world, innovation, trust, and sustainable development are closely intertwined and form one of the fundamental pillars of economic progress.

The Prime Minister said that World Accreditation Day reminds people of the importance of safety, quality, and reliability of products and services used in their daily lives. Every year on June 9, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) observe World Accreditation Day.

He noted that consumers today consider not only product quality but also the ethics of the production process, social responsibility, and environmental impact. Therefore, it is crucial to establish sustainable production systems to maintain a competitive position in the international market.

The Prime Minister further added that accreditation is an internationally recognized quality assurance system that verifies the quality of products and services based on specific standards. It is not merely a recognition but a vital tool to enable the country’s industrial sector to compete globally.

He informed that the Bangladesh Accreditation Board, under the Ministry of Industries, is working to make the quality of the country’s products and services acceptable and credible at the international level. So far, the organization has granted accreditation certificates to 168 government, private, and multinational institutions. Currently, these activities are conducted by following international standards through five sector-specific schemes.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that World Accreditation Day will further strengthen the country’s quality infrastructure and accelerate the progress of innovation and sustainable development.
